Tackling Debt| Categories: Self-Development
After reading Dave Ramsey's "The Total Money Makeover" I vowed to pay off my debt. The debt snowball method was my weapon of choice, and armed with it, I was able to tackle the money I owed to lenders. I'm talking small medical bills to large amounts of money owed to my credit card companies.
When my journey started I put my financial information into my Mint account and remember feeling like I was about to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro barefooted. Mint showed my net worth as -$110,000 (negative $110,000).
I did what Dave Ramsey recommended--take it one step at a time. With the support of my wife I started to pour as much money as I could towards my goal of being debt free. Now I am proud to announce that I've paid off all my consumer debt--the last $660 dollars owed to my credit card company was paid yesterday. Since the start of the year we've managed to put approximately $65,000 towards our debt free goal.
My journey is far from finished. I still have what my wife and I call "The Final Boss"--my student loans. I'm looking forward to being done with them so that we can start building wealth, but this was a monumentous occasion in my eyes and thought it would be nice to share. If you're in debt, please check out Dave Ramsey's book. If I can do this, I truly believe anyone can.
